A talented young artist from Ashington is preparing to launch her very own tattoo studio at the end of September.
Beth Corbett, 25, a tattoo artist with over 8 years experience will open The Koi Pond at the newly constructed Waterside Court on North Seaton Industrial Estate on 22nd September.
“I had reached a point where I enjoyed the job I did but thought that I needed a new challenge. Opening up on my own would give me that opportunity. I know I’ve made the right decision and am really excited at how my plans and ideas have turned into reality”, explains Beth.
Beth first got into tattooing after developing an interest in art at school and studying fine art at Northumberland College. “During my work experience I got the opportunity to do a work placement at Dragons Lair in Ashington. It wasn’t a popular decision with my school but I absolutely loved the time I spent there and was lucky enough to be offered a job there soon afterwards. I served my apprenticeship with Carlo and gained a lot of invaluable skills and experience.”
The studio is situated within Loose Cannons boxing & mixed martial arts training camp and gym incorporating United Studios Dance and fitness, in a purpose built modern and hygienic studio, fully equipped to offer the full tattooing service. “I have a lot of experience and can offer a wide selection of designs to clients. I also have a particular interest in freehand and custom tattoos and more than welcome customers own ideas and interpretations on my designs. I also offer a full range of aftercare advice and products.”
Beth has received a lot of help from the Go Wansbeck project en route to setting up The Koi Pond “I had a lot of help and advice from Luke Dunnett when initially looking for premises that was invaluable. I also met with the business coaches in the early stages which enabled me to formulate my business plan and ensure that it was viable before I took the plunge and set out alone.”
Whilst Beth is confident the business will take off, she is also keen to embark on other areas of the industry that she has a keen interest in,” I would love to be able to take part in conventions across Europe – that would be brilliant. Earlier this year I took part in the Bodies, Boufants and Boutiques show at Woodhorn Colliery which was great fun. I did live tattoo demonstrations that were really popular and I made a lot of contacts from taking part”.
