Photographer set to carve a name for himself in Newbiggin
Newbiggin-by-the-Sea has aptly developed a reputation for harbouring creative talent and has attracted to its shores an up-and-coming photographer to join the ranks of artists and creators in the picturesque Northumberland town.
Martin Lynn, who lives in Ashington but hails originally from Darlington, has recently taken up premises within the Newbiggin Arts Forum at the Newbiggin Arts Centre on Woodhorn Lane in the town with big hopes of making a success of his new photography business.
Carve Photography began its life as a hobby for Martin “It’s something that I have always been interested in and dabbled with. I am also in the TA and started off by taking local regimental photographs and my interest has grown from there”.
When Martin was made redundant from his design and marketing job in January, it was obvious to him that it was time to take the plunge. “My initial intention was to focus solely on offering design and image repair services, with photography staying primarily as a hobby. It quickly became apparent however that this
would be labour intensive for little return, so with help and advice from business coach Jan Grieveson, CARVE Photography was born”.
Once Martin had his business plan, he was put in touch with Luke Dunnett, Commercial Premises Coordinator of the Wansbeck Business Forum to find out what properties were available. “Luke was great. Initially, all the sites we looked at were just too expensive. Luke persevered and suggested we look at some space within the Newbiggin Arts Centre and I haven’t looked back. I’m grateful to Luke for his persistence; if he hadn’t found me somewhere as affordable and suitable as this – I wouldn’t have been in a position to set up CARVE Photography”.
With the help of Go Wansbeck flexible funding and BENE, Martin hopes to be fully operational within the next month. “I will offer the full photography service including weddings and portraits but I am also branching out into equestrian and motocross or enduro-racing photography which is really good fun and something that I would like to
do more of should the opportunity arise”.
Martin is a self taught photographer with a naturally good eye and instinct for what makes a good photograph, “My aim for the future is to be recognised by the British Institute of Professional Photographers (BIPP) this will take 3-5 years but will acknowledge my skill and ability as a photographer”.
